Are you asking yourself, “Who is Greg Swann?” Again, you’ll want to move along. This is an RE.net insider’s blog. If you don’t understand what that means, no biggie, but this blog will be of little interest to you.
Are you an RE.netter, who knows who Greg Swann is, doesn’t hate him, and are still asking, “WTF?”… Read on.
I am a long time RE.net blogger. My experience is measured in years, not months. For a long time now, I see what some other RE.netters are doing and shake my head. Some have even proclaimed themselves experts, and are doling out advice that I beleive is just plain wrong. In the past, I tried to debate them on the crux of my disagreement. I generally found that most took it as an insult instead of advice. So I stopped doing it.
Recently I watched Greg Swann try to offer similar advice. Not everyone liked what he had to say. To be fair, Greg could have used softer language to make the point, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had been attacked anyway. Because I do, and I have.
Since Greg did not appear to be particularly bothered by the attacks, and is already dispised by so many, he is the perfect dasypus armor to hide behind. I want to talk about the issues, I don’t want to pull any punches, and I don’t want the RE.net to take it personal.
I have a ton of RE.net freinds. If you contribute to BHB, AG, RCG, RSS Peices, The RE Tomato, Lenderama, Sellsius, or Inman, you would recognize me. There’s a good chance I have met you in person. By blogging anonymously, I figure every blogger will have to consider if I am their friend or foe before responding. My wish is that they think about what I am saying instead of what faction I belong to.
Someday I’ll reveal myself. It will probably be the day this blog shuts down. I’ve given Greg several hints to figure it out if he so chooses. My expectation is that he’ll keep it a secret anyway.

I look forward to reading your work. I appreciate you don’t want to pull any punches– I hope this implies that others are given the equal right not to pull punches on you.
What do you mean by hate Greg Swann? Do you consider strong disagreement with his ideas hatred of Greg Swann? If you do, then what label will you apply to those who disagree with some ideas and not others? I suspect few hate Greg Swann, but that many disagree with him and his methods.
Those who view the world in mostly black & white (Cheez Wiz or Odysseus medal), and leave little room for the gray, should expect (and I think they do) a response from those who embrace the gray.
And if you allow Greg Swann the freedom to speak in harsh terms, you must acknowledge and provide the same freedom to others to reply in kind, without labeling them haters or mewing mobs. Just because GS is first out of the gate with a harsh opinion does not bestow any superior right over those who dissent with harsh opinions in reply.

When people come to my real blog, hiding behind a screen name, and then go off and attack me. I ban them to. My personal blog is a reflection of my reputation. I wouldn’t let a sniper attack me there. I wouldn’t let them attack you there.
I’m going to let it ride here, but comments need to be about the issues, and not personal attacks.
Fake Greg Swan does have a reputation to uphold, and will act accordingly. Someday, (not today Brian), my identity will be revealed. Everything I say here will reflect upon me in retrospect. My annonimity is not so I can mouth off whenever I like. It’s so people will look at the argument, and not who’s making it.

I have narrowed down who the Fake Greg Swann really is … This person is either male or female, old or young, serious or funny, and is located somewhere in North America. After that, I am befuddled.
Benjaman, FGS is not the real Greg. This is an honest conversation about RE.net married with a dishonest conversation of who FGS is. The one bit of truth about FGS that I promise is true is that FGS is not the real Greg… for now.
As a former anonymous blogger myself, I look forward to seeing how long you can maintain your hidden identity…
